Nutmeg received her Christmas wish a few days early and found her forever home.
Our Program Partners are busy all year long, yet the holidays are even more hectic. Even though a cute puppy purchased from the mall store are certainly deserving a forever home, our dedicated partners are on the ground — often literally — rescuing… receiving… and rehabilitating four-leggeds during the cold, frosty, crisp and sometimes crippling winters.
A longtime partner of the Reservation Animal Rescue™ (RAR) program, Oglala Pet Project (OPP) serves the animals of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and surrounding area. RAR’s Animal Welfare services has been an amazing steward of rehabbing and rehoming animals no matter what time of year.
Nicky is still waiting for the magical moment of finding his forever home.
Nutmeg and Nicky are siblings and were both pre-holiday rescues in late September. They survived and thrived together, but said their goodbyes as Nutmeg received her Christmas wish a few days early, having found her forever family. Sadly, Nicky is still hoping for that magical moment.
Nicky is a male German Shepherd mix that fought to survive, day to day, with no mom to raise him. Nicky was part of a litter whose mom was poisoned. After many texts, calls, and multiple transports, the seven babies found warmth and love at an OPP bottle foster home. Once cold, hungry and covered in fleas, Nicky was grateful for his rescue. Thankfully, he was given a chance and didn’t freeze to death. The young pup now enjoys warm blankets at his foster home, but hopes a family will bring in the new year with a hopeful pup that comes with all his puppy vaccinations, deworming, neutered and microchipped.
According to American Pet Product Association (APPA), 34% of dogs are purchased from breeders, while 23% of dogs and 31% of cats are obtained from an animal shelter or humane society. Let’s increase those number of shelter animals and get Nicky and those like him into a loving home.
