The Cat's Meow

Kitty Our Shelter Program Partner can offer healthy, lovable animals and the variety of cats they have available may be unmatched.

If it's variety you're looking for, it can be found nestled in a "off the beaten path" mountain valley on the Flathead Nation Reservation in Montana. Our Shelter Program Partner there can offer healthy, lovable animals and the variety of cats they have available may be unmatched!

There are white ones, black ones, calico ones, previously matted now perfectly coiffed ones (aka "Sweatervest") and there are even cats with a few more toes than typical ones. If your wish is to have a cat with blue eyes... they have those. If your wish is for a feline with green eyes, they have those, too. If your wish is to have a cat with one blue eye and one green eye, they even have that! If your only wish is to give a loving cat a good home, then you've definitely come to the right place.

Snow is a beautiful, majestic white cat that was the largest of all the residents at the time of our visit. The cat was comfortable in its environment, hopping from one chair onto a kitty counter and then leaping on to a low bench. Snow made sure to cuddle up to those that were up for some kitty loving and played independently, proving that Snow is a low maintenance cat — not too needy.

There were several other white cats... a mommy and her grown kittens (two of which had extra toes on their front paws) and momma had the two different colored eyes. Her little ones were playful and lovable and were able to scratch and stretch extra well with the extra toes and claws!

We are proud to support the four-leggeds on the Flathead Nation Reservation. Food and supplies are just a few of the necessities that keep a shelter running, but establishing an environment that respects the animals and teaches them to be good companions is also important to move them into a forever home.

It's clear, the mission of our Program Partner is to be a role model of the ideal home for their cats and dogs so a family or potential owner are immediately given ideas of how to raise a healthy companion pet in their own homes.

The Cat Room is one example of how providing a good temporary home ultimately translates to a good companion for individuals wishing to adopt on a permanent basis. The room has all the basics (food, shelter, litter boxes), but also includes some simple comforts that all cat homes should have to raise a healthy, happy cat.

For cats, it's not hard to attach a scrap piece of carpet to a board for a scratching post or set up a litter box with a plastic container and some kitty litter. Toys dangled with yarn from the ceiling, and fences also served their purpose to keep the cats entertained and active. The shelter had even hung a bird bath just outside of the fence and the director was perplexed as to why no birds have enjoyed a bath so near its arch enemies!

Even though these felines were comfortable in their temporary digs, it was apparent from their purring and cuddling with visitors that they would love nothing better than to have a forever home to call their own.

Thank you!
