December 12th is a day the kids at Crazy Horse School on Pine Ridge will always remember. That was the day Santa Claus came to town!
Almost 175 kids showed up to greet Santa and receive their very own stocking from the SNRF Christmas program. This year’s stockings were filled with children’s books, art supplies, a DVD and VHS tapes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs and brushes, flash cards and playing cards, as well as candy, fruit rollups, and $5 gift cards from Pizza Hut.
Some kids laughed, some kids cried, and some kids dived into their stockings!
The room was bursting with the energy of excitement more than some kids have felt in a long time. One of the teachers at the Santa Stop told SNRF staff that around this time of year, some kids are transferred into a school if the family learns of a Christmas distribution. This may occur just 2 to 3 days before the gifts are given out. And 2 to 3 days later, the kids are transferred back to their regular school. It’s sad to think of, but for some kids these transfers are the only way they can participate in Christmas. We know SNRF reached a few of them this day.
Because of the generosity of SNRF donors, this year another 325 kids from Pine Ridge will also get to participate when Santa comes to their communities of Allen and Wanblee. This will be a nice change from the hardships of their recent blizzard. And we know it will spread even more Christmas cheer.
Thank you!
