 Meet Delta and Ariana

Delta and Ariana
Delta thanked the supporters of the Cradle Club service. She appreciated the generosity of others in welcoming Ariana into the world.

Ariana was 7 months old during our visit. It was many months since Delta received the "Welcome" baby basket after Ariana was born just before Christmas. This was provided through the Southwest Indian Relief Council (SWIRC) Program's Cradle Club service.

Delta exclaimed, “I was surprised they did that—the basket really helped. I got the tub, towels, blankets—the stuff she needed…pampers, bottles.”

After Ariana’s two-month-old shots, Delta received the second basket of goodies — the “Good Start Basket” — and was equally appreciative.

With six members of the family — a teenager entering high school, a 12 year old, and a 10 year old — many of the clothes and items used by the older children as babies were already out of the home. Replacing them would be a challenge.

“The stuff here is expensive and we only go out once or twice a month to Show Low to shop. There are no stores around,” added Delta.

Ariana was a welcomed addition to the family. Jaden, the younger son, even asked Delta to “sign up for a new baby at the hospital.”

Ariana
Ariana was progressing well in her development. Ariana scooted around in their home in her walker and was able to hold her own bottle.

The oldest brother, Thomas, was very close to his new baby sister. Delta explained, “She looks for him and he plays with her. He’s really protective of her.” Thomas was entering high school as a freshman and would be playing varsity basketball. The school doesn’t have younger teams, just varsity, and Thomas was looking forward to playing with his older cousins. Delta added, “He’s been MVP and All Tourney. He wants to get a good paying job so he can purchase a house and a car for the family.” Thomas served as the man of the family before Ariana’s father joined them. Thomas was finally able to worry less about serving in that role. Instead, he could focus on school, sports, and being an awesome big brother.

The baby was progressing well in her development. Ariana scooted around in their home in her walker and was able to hold her own bottle. “She seems to be growing faster compared to the others,” observed Delta. “She is trying to crawl and if she’s anything like her older sister, she’ll be walking at 10 months. She loves sweet potatoes, but doesn’t care for peas.”

Delta thanked the supporters of the Cradle Club (baby basket) service. She appreciated the generosity of others in welcoming Ariana into the world.
